How to Qualify for Strongman Corporation Nationals — The Complete Pathway Guide

The Strongman Corporation Nationals at the North Texas Strength Expo in Mesquite, Texas is the national amateur championship of strongman in the United States. Every athlete on that floor earned their spot — through local shows, state competition, and regional championships that make up the qualifying pathway.
This guide covers exactly how to navigate that pathway, from your very first local show all the way to the national stage.
Step 1 — Get Your Strongman Corporation Membership
Everything in the Strongman Corporation competitive system requires an active membership. Before you can register for any sanctioned event, your membership must be current.
Register at strongmancorporation.com. The membership includes your athlete number, your competitive license, and insurance coverage at all sanctioned SC events. Starting in 2026, auto-renew is available at $70/year.
Important: Your membership number is required at every weigh-in. Save a screenshot of your membership card or set up your Member365 digital portal before your first competition. The organization specifically recommends this — showing up at weigh-in without proof of membership creates problems.
Step 2 — Find Your First Local Show
There are no qualification requirements for SC local shows. Any athlete with an active SC membership can enter any sanctioned local competition. This is intentional — the local level is designed as the accessible entry point for new competitors.
Find local shows in Texas at the Strongman Corporation events calendar at strongmancorporation.com/events. Texas has active local shows in DFW, Houston, San Antonio, and other markets throughout the year.
Your first local show tells you:
- Which weight class you compete best in
- Which events are strengths and which are weaknesses
- What competition conditions actually feel like compared to training
- Whether you want to continue competing (almost everyone does)
Don't wait until you feel ready. The most common regret among competitive strongman athletes is that they started competing too late. First shows are about learning, not placing. Show up, compete, and use the experience.
Step 3 — Build Your Competitive Record at Local Shows
Competing in 2–4 local shows before targeting your first regional championship is a reasonable development path. Multiple local show experiences give you:
- A clearer picture of your competitive weight class (you may find after a few shows that you're more competitive in a different class)
- Technical development on events that felt unfamiliar at your first show
- A more accurate assessment of what regional competition will require
- Qualifying placements that some regional formats may reference
There is no required number of local shows before you can enter a regional. But athletes who enter regional competition with multiple local shows behind them are better prepared technically and strategically.
Step 4 — Compete at a Regional Championship
Regional Championships are where national qualifiers are earned. There are no qualification requirements for Regionals — all athletes are eligible. You don't need a local show placement to enter your regional.
The SC regional championship serves your geographic area. Identify which regional covers Texas/your area and register when the event is announced.
At the regional:
- Competition is more intense than local shows — you're competing against athletes who have been developing specifically for this level
- Weight classes are the same kilogram classes now mandatory at all SC events
- Top finishers in each weight class earn a national qualifier — the specific number of qualifiers awarded per class depends on the field size and SC standards for that event cycle
Finishing in a qualifying position at your regional earns you the right to compete at Strongman Corporation Nationals at the North Texas Strength Expo.
Masters athletes: Per current SC rules, Masters athletes may compete in whatever age and weight class best suits them on the first day of competition, regardless of the age or class in which they qualified.
Step 5 — Confirm Your National Qualifier Status
After earning a qualifying placement at your regional, verify your qualifier status in the SC system before registering for Nationals.
The Strongman Corporation website maintains a "Qualified Athletes" page for each national competition. Confirm your name appears on this list for your weight class before proceeding to registration.
If there's any discrepancy — if you believe you earned a qualifier but it's not reflected in the system — contact the SC directly or reach out to the regional promoter.
Step 6 — Register for Nationals at the North Texas Strength Expo
