Strongman Corporation Rules Every Competitor Must Know Before Competing

November 24, 2025

You've decided you're going to compete in Strongman Corporation. Maybe it's your first local show. Maybe you've qualified for Strongman Corporation Nationals at the North Texas Strength Expo in Mesquite, Texas. Either way, there are rules and requirements you need to know before you set foot on the competition floor.

This guide covers the official Strongman Corporation rules and competitor requirements — drawn directly from the organization's athlete information — so you arrive at every event prepared, compliant, and ready to compete.

Membership Requirements

You must have an active Strongman Corporation membership to compete at any sanctioned event. This is non-negotiable and checked at every event.

Starting in 2026, Strongman Corporation members have the option of using auto-renew for a discounted renewal rate of $70 each year. If auto-renew is not selected, the standard annual rate applies.

Strongman Corporation uses Member365 for managing, viewing, and selling memberships. This allows athletes to view, renew, and update their membership at any time online.

At weigh-in, you will need to show proof of membership — including your athlete number and membership expiration date. The organization specifically recommends saving a screenshot of your membership card on your phone for easy access, or setting up your online portal with Member365 prior to weigh-ins so you can show a digital version.

Do not show up to weigh-in without proof of membership. This is one of the most common avoidable problems first-time competitors encounter.

Age Requirements

Athletes must be at least 12 years old to compete in Strongman Corporation events.

Anyone under the age of 18 must have permission from a parent or guardian, and the parent or guardian must register the athlete and sign any applicable waivers for individual competitions.

To compete in the Teen division, athletes must fall within the age range specified for that division. Check the current SC rules for exact Teen division age cutoffs, as these can be updated.

The 2026 Weight Class System — Kilograms Only

Starting in 2026, ALL Strongman Corporation competitions at every level use kilogram classes. This is now mandatory — there are no longer any pound-based alternatives.

This change provides clarity and consistency across all SC events and brings the organization in line with national and international standards across strength sports globally. In 2025, some competitions used pound classes and some used kilogram classes. From 2026 forward, all competitions — local shows, regionals, nationals — use kilogram classes only.

Important clarification: The kilograms apply to weight classes only — not to event implements. Event weights can still be listed in pounds. The only thing measured in kilograms is the athlete's bodyweight for classification purposes.

What this means practically:

  • Verify your current competition weight and identify which kilogram class it falls in
  • Do not assume your pound-based class from previous seasons translates directly — check the current SC kilogram class structure
  • Register for the class that matches your actual competition bodyweight

Qualification Standards

There are no qualification requirements for Regionals — all athletes are eligible to enter. This makes Regional Championships the primary opportunity to earn a national qualifier.

For Nationals (including Strongman Corporation Nationals at the North Texas Strength Expo), athletes must have earned a qualifying placement at a sanctioned Regional Championship.

Masters athletes may compete in whatever age and weight class best suits them on the first day of competition, regardless of the age or weight class in which they qualified. This provides flexibility for masters competitors whose weight or age group needs may have shifted between their qualifying event and nationals.

Athletes who qualify at one weight class may opt to compete up or down one weight class from where they qualified — per the current SC qualification standards documentation.

Competition Day Requirements

Weigh-in: Arrive at weigh-in with your membership card or digital proof, any required competition equipment, and your weight at or below your registered class limit. Weigh-in protocols vary by competition format — confirm whether your event uses same-day or 24-hour weigh-in procedures.

Rules meeting: Attend the rules meeting at the beginning of each competition day. Rules meetings cover the specific events programmed for that day, the judging standards being enforced, and any event-specific requirements. Missing the rules meeting can result in technical violations you weren't aware of.

Equipment standards: Different events have specific equipment requirements. Log press requires athletic apparel that doesn't interfere with the lift. Atlas Stone events typically allow tacky. Deadlift events require socks or other shin protection. Confirm event-specific equipment rules with the promoter when you register.

Judge's calls are final: Event judges make real-time calls on whether each attempt meets the required standards. A failed attempt on safety or technical grounds cannot be protested after the fact. If you're uncertain about a judging call, consult with the head judge immediately after the event — not during competition.

What Changes at Nationals vs Local Shows

Strongman Corporation Nationals at the North Texas Strength Expo operates under the same fundamental rules as local and regional events, but with notable differences in practical reality:

Field size and depth: The national field has earned its placement. The competitive standard is significantly higher than local or regional competition. Athletes who competed at the local level for the first time a year ago and earned their regional qualifier are now on the floor with athletes who have been competing for years at the highest amateur level.

Media and livestream presence: Nationals at the expo is a nationally covered event. Your competition is being watched, recorded, and potentially broadcast. This doesn't change the rules — but it changes the experience.

Pro Card stakes: Top finishers earn Pro Cards. This means every attempt, every event, and every point matters differently than at a development competition. Athletes should plan their competition strategy accordingly — protecting their total score rather than gambling on maximum attempts that risk their overall placing.
